Aerohive Networks to Host Interactive Online Event on Latest Networking Standard 802.11ac

Analyst Craig Mathias Joins Author Matthew Gast to Discuss All Things 802.11ac

Sunnyvale, Calif. — Sept. 9, 2013 — Aerohive Networks®, a leader in controller-less Wi-Fi and cloud-managed mobile networking for the enterprise market, today announced that it will be hosting an online community event on the latest networking standard 802.11ac, taking place on Sept. 9 from 5:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. PST on Aerohive’s HiveNation online community.

About the Event

  • The wireless market is initiating a standards transition from 802.11n to 802.11ac, to deliver substantially higher wireless performance and offering an increase in speed to beyond one gigabit per second. However, many enterprises are hesitant to transition to this latest standard, with many misconceptions remaining about timing, deployment and the standard’s capabilities.
  • Aerohive will be hosting a special online event, “All Things 802.11ac”, on Monday, Sept. 9 from 5:00 am to 5:00 pm PST. Moderated by industry analyst Craig Mathias, this one-day event will take place on Aerohive’s HiveNation community. Craig is a recognized expert on wireless communications and mobile computing and member of the IEEE Communications Society and writes the popular Nearpoints blog for Network World.
  • This interactive forum will also feature Aerohive’s Director of Product Management and 802.11ac expert Matthew Gast, who just completed his latest book: “802.11ac: A Survival Guide, Wi-Fi at Gigabit and Beyond” published by O’Reilly Media in July 2013. Matthew currently serves as chair of both the Wi-Fi Alliance's security task groups, was the first chair of the Wireless Network Management Marketing task group, and is the past chair of the IEEE 802.11 revision task group.
  • Participants will have the opportunity to share and discuss 802.11ac technology, deployment concerns, planning and more. Craig Mathias will moderate the discussion by posting new topics hourly for Matthew to answer, and attendees are encouraged to chime in with questions of their own.
  • Those interested in participating simply need to join the Aerohive HiveNation community by clicking on the “sign up” icon in the top right corner here. Once a member, attendees can follow the category “All Things 802.11ac”.

About the Presenter

  • Matthew Gast, director of product management at Aerohive Networks, led development of 802.11-2012 and security task groups at the Wi-Fi Alliance.
  • Considered an 802.11ac expert, Matthew recently completed his book, “802.11ac: A Survival Guide,” an in-depth guide on this next generation of wireless. His new book provides in-depth information to help plan for 802.11ac, with technical details on design, network operations, deployment and monitoring. Matthew discusses how the 802.11ac will increase network speed and capacity and provides guidance on when and how to upgrade network infrastructure to 802.11ac by evaluating client devices, applications and network connections.
  • The book is available now for purchase. Participants in the online community event will also have the chance to win a free, autographed copy of the book.
