Madeleine Fashions Wireless LAN with Aerohive Networks

Sunnyvale, Calif. & London, England — April 2, 2012 Aerohive Networks™, the pioneer in cloud-enabled enterprise networking infrastructure, today announced that Madeleine Fashion, a retailer specialising in high end ladies fashions, has deployed an Aerohive WLAN solution at its International headquarters in Germany.

The WLAN, implemented by Noris Network, was selected for its ease of management and rich functionality to provide a network that will scale and grow alongside the business.

News Facts

  • With operations in eight European countries, ensuring the latest trends are in store at the right time is crucial for Madeleine’s success. The buying process takes place at headquarters, where department teams come together with suppliers, designers and brands to select garments. With up to 50 employees, guests and suppliers all trying to connect laptops via ethernet cables in one conference room, the company sought a business-grade Wi-Fi solution that would enable secure, simple Wi-Fi access in order to create a more productive and collaborative environment.

  • The IT team chose Aerohive following an evaluation alongside Trapeze/Juniper. Madeleine’s IT team also took part in a University Forum, to learn from WLAN experiences of peers and industry experts. Aerohive’s architecture, without a controller, was highly recommended across the board.
  • Madeleine found the controller-based architecture of other vendors limited in performance, reliability and scalability. The company chose Aerohive’s technology to minimise onsite infrastructure, which would bring the company immediate CAPEX savings, as well as eliminating points of failure and allowing for predictable growth.

  • In assessing its wireless needs, Madeleine also recognised the opportunity to enable corporate Wi-Fi access for employees and also to provide secure manageable guest access for visitors.  Security was a key concern for Madeleine and Aerohive’s Private Pre-Shared Key (PPSK) feature was a must-have functionality for the company. Wireless access, per user, can be centrally managed and revoked by the IT team, providing quick and secure temporary Wi-Fi access to visitors.

  • Aerohive’s centralised management platform, HiveManager, will also enable the IT team to efficiently configure and manage all wireless devices on the network from one location, helping to minimise the demands on operational resources.

  • Furthermore, the trend for employees and guests to bring smart devices such as iPhones, iPads and Galaxy Tabs into the workplace is increasing at Madeleine. Although primarily deployed for laptop use, the Aerohive wireless LAN will provide Madeleine with the capacity and management functionality it needs to cope with all devices that enter the headquarters and fully support its upwardly mobile workforce.

Comments

“The benefits of Aerohive’s architecture were clear”, said Manuel Eder, Team leader Networks and IT at Madeleine Fashions. “It was an easy decision where cost, scalability and ease of administration and management were key for us. Having to implement two controllers for failover was not an option, especially when we didn’t in fact need a controller at all. With Aerohive, we have the platform to scale our wireless network without breaking the bank, and with the added benefit of eliminating single points of failure.”

“Aerohive has kept all its promises so far – it is easy to deploy, configure and manage,” continues Eder. “I am also very confident in the security capabilities of the solution. We were particularly impressed with the rich technology in Aerohive. At the moment we are using only 15 percent of the features, and there are many more possibilities to grow and scale the solution alongside business need. Exploring capabilities such as network-based mobile device management and QoS, there is no doubt our Aerohive implementation will grow and evolve as our business does.”
