Why Was Aerohive Selected
- Aerohive’s “smart” access points are manufactured with built-in intelligence to operate without a controller, which reduces the cost and complexity of deployment.
- Aerohive’s cost-effective controller-less solution provides the performance, availability, management, mobility and security needed in a large-campus environment. Due to the controller-less solution, expanding to future wireless technologies will be much easier for Fresno City College than with traditional Wi-Fi systems.
- Aerohive’s HiveManager is a centralized network management interface that provides customers with real-time topology, performance and client information to simplify troubleshooting and capacity planning. HiveManager is ideal for Fresno City College because the college was able to virtualize it in its existing VMware environment.
Aerohive Technologically Advances Oldest Community College in State of California, Enables Wireless Connectivity for Influx of BYO Devices
Established in 1910 in the heart of California’s Central Valley, Fresno City College was the first community college in the state of California and the second in the nation. With a population of more than 20,000 students, Fresno City College is a comprehensive learning community that offers innovative instructional programs and a wide variety of supportive services to assist students in achieving their educational goals. Fresno City College reaches beyond higher education and into the community through its dedication to enhance the economic and social development of the region.
Prior to Aerohive, Fresno City College was leveraging a controller-based wireless solution across campus; however, when Fresno City College opened its refurbished Old Administration Building in 2010, the extra 100,000 square feet of instructional space paired with the explosion of mobile devices forced the college to re-evaluate its wireless solution. Fresno City College needed a new, technologically advanced wireless solution that was cost effective, could monitor connectivity and could accommodate the influx of smartphones and Bring Your Own (BYO) devices onto the network.
Fresno City College worked closely with One Interface Engineering, LLC to evaluate several networking vendors including Cisco, Aruba, Meraki, Meru and Ruckus before selecting Aerohive. Ultimately, Aerohive was chosen for its strong feature set, remote management capability, ease of deployment and cost-effective, controller-less solution. Fresno City College is currently utilizing Aerohive’s HiveManager VM, and Aerohive AP170s and AP330s.
