Why Aerohive Was Selected
- Aerohive's 'smart' access points are manufactured with built-in intelligence to provide teachers with complete network control over student devices. This core functionality is called StudentManager & TeacherView. Aerohive is the only wireless provider that offers teacher controls built into the solution as well as the ability to integrate with Aeries SIS. Ultimately, these key features made the decision easy for LVUSD to select Aerohive.
- Aerohive integrated its award winning StudentManager & TeacherView platform with LVUSD's Aeries SIS to synchronize and understand student schedules throughout the day. From within the StudentManager application, LVUSD teachers now have the power to turn the Internet on and off and drive the students to specific web pages in relation to the lesson plan all from student devices.
- Aerohive offered the most comprehensive, cost effective, flexible cloud networking solution compared to all of the other considered vendors including Ruckus Wireless, Aruba Networks and Enterasys.
Southern California School District Integrates Aerohive’s Next- Generation Wireless Solution with Aeries Student Information System to Improve Student Test Scores and Provide Teachers with Network Control in the Classroom
Las Virgenes Unified School District (LVUSD) is located in Southern California and spans the cities of Agoura Hills, Calabasas, Hidden Hills and the L.A. County portion of Westlake Village. The school district is comprised of 16 schools total including one pre-school, eight elementary, one alternative K-8, three middle schools, two high schools and one alternative high school. LVUSD has a population of approximately 11,300 students. LVUSD values students emotionally and academically, and provides the highest quality education possible in a personalized environment to enable each student to realize maximum potential as a responsible citizen who will enhance the community and society.
Based in a high wealth area, Las Virgenes USD does not receive much federal or state funding to supplement a 1to1 program and common core assessment. As a result, the district needed a robust wireless solution that would enable faculty and students to bring up to four devices each, to support common core project based learning. In 2017, the state of California will mandate all common core assessment to be conducted online, making it especially important for the district to ready its wireless infrastructure to properly support this transition. In addition, LVUSD relies on the Aeries Student Information System (SIS) to manage critical student information such as grades, attendance, location and data. LVUSD needed a Wi-Fi product that could also effectively integrate with Aeries (SIS). Faced with these challenges, Philip Scrivano, CTO at Las Virgenes Unified School District, began his search for a wireless solution that could meet these needs.
Las Virgenes USD conducted a rigorous RFP, followed by a full day of on site demos in which vendors competed head-to-head. After evaluating other traditional providers including Ruckus Wireless, Aruba Networks and Enterasys, Aerohive was ultimately chosen for its flexible, robust and cost-effective wireless solution. In addition, Aerohive was the only vendor that provided the StudentManager & TeacherView functionality. LVUSD is currently utilizing Aerohive’s AP330s, AP170s, BR100 Router, StudentManager and HiveManager Online.
