Aerohive Networks Releases New Version of Free Wi-Fi Planning Tool
Easy to Use 802.11n Online Wi-Fi Planner Provides Automatic Placement of Access Points to Simplify Planning and Budgeting for Wi-Fi deployments
SANTA CLARA, Calif., June 29, 2010 — Aerohive Networks, creators of the award-winning cooperative control wireless LAN (WLAN) architecture, announced today that it has released a new version of its free Online Wi-Fi Planner Web Application. The new version of the Wi-Fi planning application adds key features that will enable enterprises and organizations of all sizes to quickly and easily plan their Wi-Fi deployments and more accurately determine the number of access points (AP) they will require.
Aerohive's Online Wi-Fi Planner provides a new, more intuitive user interface (UI) and AP auto placement. After uploading a map or defining a perimeter and drawing in walls, the auto placement feature can be used to automatically place APs to provide coverage with specified signal strength, transmit power and AP type. Additionally, users can drag APs around the map to determine coverage impact. By choosing a minimum signal strength required by a phone, this feature enables enterprises to deploy for voice. Clicking auto deploy will also move the user through the planning process much faster.
"With the adoption of 802.11n, wireless is no longer being viewed as a nice to have feature for employees, but as critical business infrastructure," said Adam Conway, Vice President of Product Management at Aerohive. "As more organizations rely on wireless to support voice, video and data networks, ensuring proper AP Density for performance and reliability is essential and must be factored in during the deployment planning stages. Our free Online Wi-Fi Planner with automatic AP placement helps ensure the design of the WLAN architecture meets current and future needs of the wireless network."
Users will also notice improved reporting in the latest version. The planner will now generate PDF reports showing AP locations, AP inventory, RF settings and heatmaps. These reports can be distributed to management or installers directly from the planning tool to streamline the process from start to finish.
The "Tell a Friend" feature included with the Online Wi-Fi Planner can be used as a collaboration tool. IT Managers are able to share access to their deployment plan to ensure the layout is correct and that the design supports critical areas and applications.
All of the new features in Aerohive's Online Wi-Fi Planner are free and available at Aerohive's Web site at www.aerohive.com/planner. The new version of the tool will also be included in Aerohive's upcoming HiveManager 3.5 at no additional cost.
