ECRMC's legacy autonomous access points did not provide secure fast roaming, a critical feature for the bedside network access and VoWLAN the hospital hoped to deploy. The autonomous access points also did not provide the security, resiliency, and reliability the hospital required.
ECRMC selected Aerohive's WLAN solution after an in-depth study revealed its technical superiority over other vendors' offerings. Aerohive's cooperative control access points ("HiveAPs") provide secure fast roaming, ease of management, and state-of-the-art security without network controllers or overlay networks. Eliminating controllers from the network substantially reduces the cost of Aerohive solutions. Aerohive's cooperative control networks are also more reliable than controller-based networks, because controllers' "single points of failure" are eliminated. Removing controllers from the network also eliminates the bandwidth bottlenecks, latency, and jitter that result from backhauling traffic through a controller, creating an ideal platform for demanding applications, such as VoWLAN.
ECRMC's upgrade to the Aerohive network was simple and fast, requiring only minimal resources. ECRMC's in-house team has deployed the network itself, without installation assistance.
