Cooperative control is a single, controller-less wireless LAN architecture that is cost effective for the smallest branch office yet meets the availability and manageability requirements of a large campus or warehouse deployment.

Aerohive Networks cooperative control wireless LAN architecture is built for the growth of the network, allowing for phased migration to 802.11n (due for ratification in 2008) without the need for additional or replacement wireless LAN controllers to support this migration, and for direct replacement of legacy autonomous access points without the need to add a controller.

Cooperative control architecture provides unique stateful high availability, mesh redundancy and stateful failover to ensure that the network is always up. The architecture's best path forwarding ensures the data path is optimized to provide the lowest latency and the lack of a controller means there is no added latency or jitter due to backhauling the wireless traffic. Sophisticated quality-of-service (QoS) with eight queues per client station in addition to the standards-based IEEE 802.11e/WMM (Wireless Multi-Media) extensions, is enabled at the network edge, in the HiveAP, where it is able to instantaneously respond to changes in the wireless signal. This is a far superior approach for supporting mission-critical applications, such as voice over wireless LAN, than relying on a centrally located controller to do policy enforcement or queuing after the traffic has already traversed the network or too far from the AP radio to respond to RF throughput fluctuations.

The Aerohive Networks cooperative control wireless LAN architecture provides all the management, mobility, and security of a controller without the cost, capacity, performance and availability issues associated with controller deployments.
